Living
a healthy life is all about instilling a series of healthy habits
into your daily routine which are good and unique to your body. We've
all heard how to create healthy habits to enable us to live well and
feel
great, but what about the unhealthy habits, how do we break them?1) Stupid to say but always start at the beginning. Try and figure out what are your key triggers that make you behave a certain way. The key is then to break them, especially because most of the time we repeat unhealthy habits without even knowing why we are doing them. (I've cleaned out my cupboards, gone shopping and for my 3.30pm troff there's now fruit in the fridge!)
2) Make small changes. Forming new habits is the easy part, but OMG breaking the old habits are tough. Although for me I always want to end my bad habits right away, I know the best way is to make small changes and then work your way up. I must learn not to try and change the world in one day.
3) Keep a tracker. Having gone to various weight watchers meetings I know the importance of tracking every mouthful. Writing things down gives them more permanence and makes them feel more official. Keep a diary and keeping a note of your progress with the new healthy habits lets you see where you can make improvements and celebrate any breakthroughs.
4) change your mindset. Try and turn your mindset on its head about these unhealthy habits by thinking about them in a negative way and how much better you are going to feel without them in your life.
5) Reward yourself. Get something right (Celebrate) positive positive positive.
